Property for sale in The Golden Mile
The Golden Mile is the informal name for the stretch of Marbella municipality between the western edge of Marbella town and Puerto Banús. It covers the beachside estates from Río Verde to Casablanca, the slopes behind the coast road, and the higher ground of Nagüeles, Sierra Blanca and Cascada de Camoján below the Sierra Blanca mountains.
Its residential history starts with the Marbella Club Hotel, opened in 1954 by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe on what had been a farm. Buyers choose it to be between Marbella town and Puerto Banús, a few minutes from each, with a beach or a sea view and a short drive to schools and hospitals.

A guide to The Golden Mile
Living on the Golden Mile
The name is informal and the area has no single centre. It is easiest to think of it in three bands: the beachside estates between the coast road and the sea, the mountainside estates just above the road, and the Sierra Blanca slopes above the A-7 motorway.
Marbella Club began as the prince's converted farmhouse and opened as a hotel in the summer of 1954. Puente Romano, a little to the west, takes its name from a small arched bridge in its gardens that is probably Roman and once carried the road over the Arroyo de Nagüeles. Between and around them are homes built over seventy years, so the area has mature gardens, high walls and established streets rather than building sites.
Communities and homes
On the beach side, from west to east, are Río Verde, mostly established villas with large white houses on the front line. El Ancón, with a seafront promenade along its length. Puente Romano, four residential complexes built in phases from 1976 to 2003 and reaching down to the promenade. Los Verdales. Las Torres, ten villas on a narrow lane to the beach. Marbella Club and Santa Margarita. Las Cañas, two rows of townhouses with interior gardens and pools. And Marbella Mar at the eastern end, which includes Urbanización Casablanca and Alhambra del Mar.
Just above the coast road are Las Lomas del Marbella Club, begun in 1973 opposite Puente Romano. Cortijo de Nagüeles, gated communities of large villas founded in the 1970s. El Capricho, smaller villa plots from the 1980s. La Virginia, one of Marbella's earliest residential estates. And gated apartment estates such as Monte Paraíso, 93 apartments in low-rise blocks from 1997, and La Trinidad, 116 apartments in landscaped gardens from 2004.
Higher up, on the Sierra Blanca slopes, Nagüeles is the longest-established district. Above it, Sierra Blanca sits at about 300 metres with views over Marbella and the sea, and Cascada de Camoján is a large gated estate. The Nagüeles park forms a natural break between the eastern and western parts of the hillside.
Schools
Swans International School's primary campus is at El Capricho, on the Golden Mile itself, about 6 minutes' drive from Puente Romano. Its secondary campus is on Calle Lago de los Cisnes in Marbella. Swans runs from Foundation Stage through GCSEs to the IB in the sixth form.
Aloha College in Nueva Andalucía is about 6 minutes west by car. It is a non-profit school for ages 3 to 18 teaching the UK national curriculum and IGCSEs, with the IB Diploma or international A levels in the sixth form. Laude San Pedro International College in San Pedro Alcántara, about 11 minutes away, follows the British system from EYFS to Year 13 with a Spanish ESO and Bachillerato option from age 12. Spanish state school places are allocated by the Junta de Andalucía on points that include how close you live to the school.
Golf, beaches and the outdoors
Nagüeles-Casablanca beach holds a Blue Flag for 2026. Several of the beachside estates, including El Ancón, Las Torres and Las Cañas, run straight down to the sand, and the seafront promenade links them.
Monte Paraíso golf course lies in the Arroyo Guadalpín valley on the eastern edge of the hillside. The Golf Valley in Nueva Andalucía, with Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, Los Naranjos and Aloha Golf Club, is about 6 minutes' drive. The Puente Romano Tennis Club, set against La Concha, opened with the hotel in 1979 and was first run by Björn Borg.
Eating out, shopping and everyday life
The plaza around the Roman bridge at Puente Romano is quiet by day and fills with diners in the evening, and there are beach restaurants along the promenade. Marbella old town is about 9 minutes' drive east and Puerto Banús about 7 minutes west, so most residents eat out in one or the other.
El Corte Inglés has a department store at El Capricho, at the Marbella end of the Golden Mile, and the shopping parades at La Carolina on the northern side of the boulevard date from the 1960s. La Cañada shopping centre, on the Ojén road at Marbella, is about 10 minutes' drive.
Healthcare
Hospital Quirónsalud Marbella, a private hospital on Avenida Severo Ochoa, is about 10 minutes from Puente Romano and runs a 24-hour emergency service for adults, children and obstetrics. HC Marbella International Hospital, also private, is on Calle Ventura del Mar near Puerto Banús.
The public hospital is the Hospital Universitario Costa del Sol on the A-7 east of Marbella, about 13 minutes' drive. For public primary care, the nearest health centres are in Marbella town: Centro de Salud Leganitos, north of the old town, and Centro de Salud Las Albarizas.
Getting around
The boulevard runs along the coast and the A-7 and AP-7 motorways run above it. Málaga airport is about 57 km, about 45 to 50 minutes by car without traffic, from both the beachside and Cascada de Camoján. Gibraltar airport is about an hour, plus the border crossing at La Línea.
There is no railway in Marbella. The Cercanías line from Málaga airport ends at Fuengirola. Within the area, the beachside estates are walkable to the promenade, but from the higher estates you will drive for almost everything: Cascada de Camoján to Puente Romano is about 13 minutes by car.
Worth knowing before you buy
Traffic noise varies more than it looks on a map. Homes close to the boulevard or just above the motorway hear them, while those a few streets in, or high on the hillside, generally do not. Visit at rush hour and on a summer evening. On the upper slopes, drive the access road yourself and check its gradient and who maintains it.
Many of the hillside estates are gated, with security and shared gardens that show up in the community fees, so ask for the fees, the last two years of minutes and any approved works. For a front-line beach property, ask your lawyer to check whether coastal-zone rules affect the plot. If you plan to let, the property must be registered in the Registro de Turismo de Andalucía and have a national short-let number, and since 3 April 2025 a new holiday let in a community of owners needs the approval of three fifths of the owners. For older villas, have your lawyer confirm that the house and any extensions match the licences and the Land Registry description.
